woman finding some book to read

About

You’ve landed on my website, a place about my journey in writing a fiction book, exploring a woman’s story of challenge after loss of job and of faith. I call her Emma, but she could be you. Follow along for the fun, craziness, upsets and hurdles of creating the actual words that equal about 280 pages when you hold the print book in your hand.

My Own Story

I’ve always loved words—the way they shape meaning, guide understanding, and bring stories to life. My reading list ranges from English mysteries to theology and women’s stories of resilience, and now, as I work on a novel, I find myself even more fascinated by how words build worlds, shape events, and reveal truth.

A little about me: I’ve lived long enough to see plenty of life changes, new locations, and unexpected turns. I grew up in the Midwest, surrounded by cornfields, before heading to Chicago for college. Along the way, I’ve called places like South America, Florida, Colorado, and now the upper Midwest home.

My writing journey started early, with a homemade neighborhood newspaper in my pre-teen years. But my professional path led to decades of work in audio. Through it all, I’ve been a devoted reader—newspapers, flyers, libraries, and walk-in bookstores have always been my haunts. During the pandemic, I may have gone overboard with book-buying, so I’m especially grateful for my local public library (and its impact on my budget!).

Family is at the heart of my life. I have a thoughtful husband, a wonderful next generation, and now, the joy of grandkids—a handful of delightful little people who make life even richer.

That’s enough for our first meeting. Just saying hello—and thank you for reading to the last line! Please join me on substack.com via the link above. I post a weekly blog on Thursday afternoon with a focus on the writer’s journey–as I experience it.
